“Get to the point”, he said
I was reading a post from a big creator
He was going on about how people need to sell immediately in the DMs
And because he’s such a large account, his words were taken as the gospel
And let me tell you, it p#sses me off when this happens..
Because this person is by no means the authority
How many followers you have doesn’t mean anything
After studying outbound sales for 2+ years..
I know that selling immediately has a lower chance of landing you a sale
Digital product, Service, whatever
It doesn’t matter, people don’t like being sold to
And without realizing it, I had proven it not once, but TWICE
In 2022 I started a conversation with a creator called Alessio
He had 63,000 followers, and did over $50,000 in revenue since 2020
And when I started talking to him, I had no intention of selling him something..
In fact, I enjoyed talking to him
He was a great guy, and we were very much on the same level business wise
Not followers, but experience, knowledge, and understanding
I had spoken to Alessio a year ago as a newbie..
But now I was just talking to him because he was interested in my marketing project
One thing led to another, and after a long conversation, Alessio became my client
Our partnership would turn into about $5,600, + a $900 referral I got thanx to him
Now if I had tried to sell to him immediately, I wouldn’t even be telling you this
In fact, like I said, I wasn’t even trying to sell him something
Here’s what I learned from this experience..
Trust is established over time
That trust can turned into perceived authority
And that authority can turn into money
So next time someone tells you to “sell fast”..
Tell them there are many ways to sell
